My name is Peter Sweeney and this is the inaugural post to the official blog of the International Outreach Program of the St. Joseph’s Health System (www.sjhs.ca)
On October 16th, a team of healthcare workers from a number of organizations will depart for Haiti. Our work will take place at the Hopital Universitaire de La Paix in Delmas, Port-au-Prince. With the support of the Haitian Ministry of Health, we have partnered with our friends at La Paix for nearly twenty years and have been working with them diligently since the earthquake earlier this year. The October trip will be our fourth since that time.
The goal of this blog is bring you tales from the field – stories from those who are bringing their healthcare vocation to a populace that is displaced and in need of our help. I hope this blog will become a place of sharing, learning, and inspiration between those in the field, those back at home, and perhaps even those whose lives we are hoping to make better.
Please pass along this blog to your friends and co-workers and if possible, give us a tweet or link us on your Facebook page. While we’re officially live today, look for our daily posts beginning October 16th.
